YOLO

(originally published on September 8)

So, this morning I'm laying on the exam table staring at the ceiling while the ultrasound technician gets ready to do her thing.

Since the last time I was here a year ago someone either painted or put up a photo (can't tell because I'm not wearing my glasses) of brightly colored tulips on the ceiling tile right above the head of the table.

Nice.

Something pleasant to look at while I get my annual ultrasound.

And, no, I'm not pregnant. LOL.

Annual ultrasound because of nodules on my thyroid.

Nodules that may (or not...so far) become cancerous.

Most of the year I don't even think about my thyroid.

Well, not much.

But then August rolls around and I have to make my annual appointment.

Then it's all-thyroid-all-the-time until I get the results from the endocrinologist to find out -- to biopsy? Or not to biopsy? That is the question...

Wheeeeeeee!

Seriously, though...I'm being a bit lighthearted here, but not actually making fun of this annual event.

It's important.

It's also scary.

But mostly it's a very excellent reminder that YOLO...

You Only Live Once.

And this one life we get is SO precious.

In the coming weeks as I wait for my results, I'm going to attempt to skip all the "what ifs" and "OMGs" and "I'm scared" thoughts. I did a LOT of that the first few years. It takes too much energy to be super worried about what may or may not happen. Instead I'm going to focus my energy on going ALL IN and SHOWING UP for my one beautiful precious life!

How about you? What's your reminder to go ALL IN and to SHOW UP?
